Canonical Record

The Source of Truth

We keep an internal record that is treated as the official version. The PDF and verification page are based on this record. If someone alters a copy of the PDF, the data in our system does not change and will not match.

Technical: The certificate data is stored in our database with the certificate ID as a primary key. The verification endpoint reads from this canonical record and does not trust client-side documents.

Digital Fingerprint

DigiCert Timestamp

We create a digital fingerprint of each certificate and send it to a trusted time authority. This proves that a specific certificate existed in a specific state at a precise time.

Technical: SHA-256 hash submitted to DigiCert Time Stamping Authority (TSA). The signed timestamp token binds the hash to a trusted time source.

Blockchain Anchoring

Merkle Root

Certificates are batched and anchored on the Bitcoin blockchain. This creates a public, independent proof of existence without revealing content.

In rare cases (for example, correction of a clear error), we may update a certificate record after internal review. Any change is applied to the canonical record and will appear on the verification page.
