A Brief History of Loewe
Founded in Madrid in 1846 by a collective of Spanish leather artisans, Loewe became one of the world’s oldest luxury houses when German craftsman Enrique Loewe Roessberg joined and formalized the brand in 1872. Long celebrated for exceptional leather expertise, Loewe earned royal warrants from the Spanish monarchy and became synonymous with refined craftsmanship.
In 2013, the arrival of creative director Jonathan Anderson revitalized the brand’s global identity. His modern aesthetic, combined with Loewe’s historical mastery of leather, produced cult pieces like the Puzzle Bag and reinvigorated classics such as the Flamenco and Amazona. In 2025, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez took over the creative direction of the brand. Today, Loewe blends artisanal tradition with contemporary design, making it one of the most respected luxury leather houses.
