A Brief History of Dior
Founded in 1946 by Christian Dior, the House of Dior revolutionized post-war fashion with its debut collection in 1947, introducing the legendary “New Look.” Characterized by cinched waists, full skirts, and an ultra-feminine silhouette, the New Look restored a sense of luxury and optimism after years of wartime austerity. Dior quickly became a global fashion powerhouse, expanding into perfumes, accessories, menswear, and haute couture.
After Christian Dior’s sudden death in 1957, the young Yves Saint Laurent took over and continued the brand’s innovative spirit, followed by notable creative directors such as Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano and Edie Slimane (menswear), Raf Simons, then Maria Grazia Chiuri and Kim Jones (menswear) and currently, Jonathan Anderson (for both women and men collections).
